Fuel firms want Finance Minister to crush black market
Business - The shocking and highly publicized wave of methanol poisoning deaths last month forced the Czech government to act against the flourishing illegal alcohol market.
Now, Czech fuel firms want the government to act in a similar way against the black market with untaxed fuel, whose size allegedly matches that of the bootleg alcohol sector... (read more here).
-----PPF lends hundreds of millions of euro to Slovakia's J&T
Business - Slovak investment group J&T has received a loan of hundreds of millions of euros from PPF, a Czech financial firm.
Czech Insider has learned that J&T originally asked for EUR 800 million, but PPF eventually decided to lend a much smaller amount - approximately one third of the sum, according to unofficial reports.
PPF has neither denied nor confirmed this. "PPF never comments on speculations..." (read more here).

Mystery surrounds Kretinsky's black briefcase
Sport - One month ago, AC Sparta owner Daniel Kretinsky handed a black briefcase allegedly containing evidence of illegal activities in Czech football to the president of the Czech Football Association, Miroslav Pelta. Pelta said that he was "devastated" by the evidence provided by Kretinsky, and that he passed all the materials to the anti-corruption police unit... (read more here).
